There’s one main reason why tourists flock to Wimbledon in July, and that’s because of the tennis Grand Slam.
If you’re one of the many people heading making your way to Wimbledon, or are considering going in future, we've compiled a shortlist of things to do and see when in the area.
Wimbledon and Putney Commons
Since the tennis is on during London's summer, enjoy the great outdoors. Head to Wimbledon and Putney Commons, which includes three areas including Wimbledon Common, Putney Heath and Putney Lower Common. These lush green areas are great for the whole family to enjoy time together in nature right outside of the hustle and bustle. Walking, hiking and cycling are all popular activities to do here along the numerous trails. Some of the highlights here include visiting the iconic Windmill, the Windmill Museum, golf and horse riding.
The Royal Parks Richmond Park
Looking for more reasons to enjoy London's summertime sun? Spend a day out in the beautiful Royal Parks Richmond Park. This National Nature Reserve offers a range of things to do and see including horse carriage rides, cycling, golf, fishing and the Isabella Plantation famous for its azaleas, ponds and streams. During your time here, you might be lucky enough to spot some wildlife like deer, birds, bats, butterflies and stag beetles *as seen above*. Rewind the clock and stand where King Henry VIII did way back in 1536 at King Henry’s Mound. And don't forget to look up and around - this historic refuge offers panoramic views of the Thames Valley and views of St. Paul's Cathedral.
Centre Court Shopping
This spacious mall offers a range of street and luxury stores including GAP and G&M. When your stomach starts to rumble from all of the shopping, indulge in lunch at one of the cafes and restaurants here. Keep the kids occupied at the shopping centre's kids club, Centre Court’s Cheeky Chimps Club.
You can’t leave Wimbledon without indulging in a treat or two from GAIL’s Bakery. Sink your teeth into one of their freshly baked breads with mouth-watering flavours like the pecan and cranberry sourdough and malted whole grain sourdough. Or if you’re after something a little sweeter, peruse their range of pastries and cakes that are guaranteed to satisfy any sweet tooth. At other times of the year, GAIL's does incredible seasonal treats for Valentine’s Day, Halloween and Christmas.
Dog & Fox Pub
Right in the heart of Wimbledon Village is the restaurant and bar Dog & Fox Pub. Enjoy a delicious pub lunch and drink without qualms, as this pub is actually known for using high-quality local ingredients. You can choose to sit inside and enjoy the classic atmosphere or participate in the true summer option of relaxing outside in the beer garden.
