While Malaysia may not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of street food, don't skip out experiencing traditional cuisine in the bustling area of George Town on Penang Island.
Here are our top five recommended dishes to try:
This could be the nation’s most famous dish, so you know it’s gotta be good. Rich in both flavour and spice, this delicious meal is a fish derived broth soup, with tamarind, chili paste, lemongrass, and prawn paste added to make one big taste sensation.
If you like a good oily snack, this one’s for you. Lor bak is deep fried strips of pork wrapped in tofu skin, prawn fritters, taro, tofu and served with dips.
These thin crepes taste as good as they look. They’ve got a soft centre and can be filled with ingredients like egg, bananas, coconut and sugar.
Fish lovers, you’ll love this one. Otak otak is a curried fish-like custard which is steamed inside a banana leaf.
And last but definitely not least is our favourite dessert. It’s a bowl full of chewy green-bean noodles, shaved ice, red beans, coconut milk, sugar and brown sugar syrup.
