From bars to beer gardens, Berlin’s nightlife is infamous. As of late however, a number of extremely clever proprietors are starting the party a little earlier in the day. Here’s a round-up of the best spots to exploit this excellent combination in Berlin.

Silo

This cosy little Australian cafe is known for its killer flat whites but also offers natural wines and local craft beers for anyone looking to kick their smashed avo up a notch. Speaking of the quintessential Aussie breakfast staple, Silo’s version comes with chia, rucola, beetroot puree and hummus and their Shakshouka is also a winning selection. Heaven for fussy eaters comes in the form of the Build Your Own Breakfast with two organic poached eggs plus whatever sides your heart desires.

Gabriel-Max-Straße 4, 10245 Berlin

Roamers

Park yourself on one of the sun-drenched wooden benches outside this rustic, California farm-house style cafe (cough, Instagram gold mine) with one of their pimped-out bloody marys in hand. Once you've devoured all of the savoury, move onto sweet, with the French toast overflowing with caramelised pear, fresh berries and Greek yoghurt.

Pannierstraße 64, 12043 Berlin

Nalu Diner

When it comes to boozy brunches, the U.S. have honed the craft to a fine art which is where the American-style Nalu Diner gets its inspo from. Butter slathered pancakes with Canadian bacon dripping with maple syrup all washed down with your choice of mimosa, bloody mary and/or tequila sunrise. We recommend “and”.

Dunckerstraße 80A, 10437 Berlin

Schiller

If you’re after a more traditional German breakfast (i.e. not slathered in either hollandaise or maple syrup) with your tipple, Schiller is where to go. The Berlin share plate comes with smoked fish with creamed horseradish, two boiled eggs, mozzarella, tomato, pesto, Gouda, Camembert with cranberries, raw ham, salami, liverwurst, butter, homemade marmalade, honey, bread roll, whole-grain bread roll, wholemeal bread. Oh and a litre of Prosecco and fresh OJ. Bitte.

Herrfurthstraße 7, 12049 Berlin

Ca.B.Slam

Another stellar spot channeling the US of A when it comes to brunch with big servings of pancakes, southern-style biscuits and huevos rancheros. Cut through the delicious grease with a Neukölln Mule made of cucumber infused vodka, ginger and Goldberg’s Intense Ginger.

Innstraße 47, 12045 Berlin

Le Bon

If you’re feeling a bit under the weather from an evening sampling the Berlin nightlife, an outdoor table overlooking the leafy green hohenstaufenplatz at Le Bon is the ideal antidote. Hair of the dog comes in the form of their bloody marys with jalapeño-infused vodka, a ‘cold-fashioned’ (cold brew coffee, spiced rum, maple syrup, cardamom bitters) or a breakfast martini that is basically a detox drink (gin, vermouth, fresh carrot, orange and ginger juice). One of those and an Italian scramble croissant with spicy salami fried and whipped into eggs on top of a layer of crispy bacon, and you’ll be ready to back it up for round two.
