Call it Splendor in the Quay! Carnival Cruise Line has announced officially that the Carnival Splendor will call Sydney home in 2019.
Carnival Cruise Line president Christine Duffy, visiting from Miami, Florida, made the announcement on 7 February. “Cruising is quite popular here and has grown. We’ve been here for five years and we think it’s time to bring a bigger ship that will be home ported year round in this beautiful Sydney Harbour.”
Australians have certainly shown their affinity for cruising - Australia has been named the fastest growing cruise market and the last decade has seen record-breaking trends for the number of Aussies choosing to cruise for their holiday.
Luckily, the Carnival Splendor will be able to accommodate these cruise-hungry travellers. The Splendor stands tall and proud at 13 decks high and stretches the length of three footy fields. She has over 1,500 staterooms, including 10 Penthouse Suites.
“We attract a lot of people travelling with families. We have become a family-friendly, fun holiday,” Duffy noted. “We offer the option of taking short cruises that still go to interesting destinations. Or for those with more time - and Australians have a lot more holiday time than we do in the US - some of our longer cruises that visit unique destinations in the South Pacific are also very exciting.”
The Carnival Splendor will make her Australian debut on 10 December 2019. Between now and then, she will receive Carnival’s full “Fun Ship 2.0” refurbishment. This will include the addition of delicious new dining experiences specifically tailored to the tastes of Australian guests and even a new waterpark. And of course, guests will be able to enjoy the favourite features, such as the Adults Only Serenity Retreat, 24-hour pizza and ice cream, Cloud 9 Spa and so much more. And she wouldn’t be complete without the Australian trademark favourite: the Green Thunder Waterslide.
